Diisobutyl Phthalate is a colorless transparent oily liquid with the chemical formula C16H22O4, molecular weight 278.35, relative density (d20) 1.040. It is soluble in most resins such as cellulose resin, polyvinyl chloride, nitrile rubber, and chlorinated rubber. It can be used as a toughening agent for cellulose resin, ethylene resin, nitrile rubber, and chlorinated rubber. Its plasticizing ability is similar to that of DBP, but it has greater volatility and water extractability than DBP. It can be used as a substitute for DBP, with a toxicity coefficient T = 500. It is not suitable for use in polyvinyl chloride films.
